Introduction
Suttons Bay, MI, is a charming town with walkable streets, historic or suburban charm, and vibrant local shops. Perfect for visitors who love crafting, cycling, reading, and coffee culture.
Yarn Shops
For fiber arts enthusiasts, Leelanau Yarn & Fiber offers a curated selection of yarns, patterns, and tools, welcoming both beginners and experienced crafters. Their window reflects the shops across the street in this walkable downtown.
Bike Shops
Explore the town with the help of several bike stores, which offer options for casual riders and cycling enthusiasts alike. The town’s walkable streets or nearby bike trails make it easy to get around, and the bay is just behind the store. There is a bike trail running from Traverse City to Sutton's Bay, the Leelanau Trail
The trail map can be downloaded here.
Independent Bookstores
Book lovers will enjoy Bay Books, featuring local authors, unique finds, and a cozy atmosphere perfect for browsing or picking up a new favorite read.
Cafés with Outdoor Seating
Relax at Sugarpie Bakery & Coffee, enjoying a freshly brewed coffee or tea on a patio while soaking in the town’s charm. Or have lunch, like we did, at the VI Grill. We sat on the porch and a friendly dog sat at the next table (with his owners, of course!) There are several other options for dining in the fresh air.
Boutique Shopping
I saw this shawl in a shop window. I did not buy it, just snapped a photo. I am going to try and reproduce something like it on my knitting machine at home. Since my husband was with me, we did not stop in for browsing.
We did stop in to a gift shop, though. The Front Porch is owned by a friend we met on a trip to Spain last spring. She wasn't there, but I found a package of sourdough starter among the kitchen items. It worked, I've been baking a lot of sourdough bread recently.
